What happens, and when
Each aarti has its own character. If you can only attend one, the notes below will help you choose.
Kakad Aarti
6:30 AM
Sung at daybreak to wake Baba. The temple is at its quietest and, most devotees will tell you, at its most powerful. Come in the morning if you want stillness.
Madhyan Aarti
12:00 PM
The midday aarti. On Thursdays and special occasions it is followed by annadan, the shared meal — if you are visiting with family for it, plan to arrive before noon.
Dhoop Aarti
6:30 PM
Sung at dusk as the lamps are lit. The most attended aarti of the day, and the one to choose if you can only come once.
Shej Aarti
9:00 PM
The final aarti, sung as Baba is put to rest. The temple closes after it. A small, unhurried gathering.

If you can choose your day, choose a Thursday. It is Baba's day, and the palki procession is held in the evening.

Baba's padukas are carried through the temple precinct in the palki, accompanied by bhajan. Held after Dhoop Aarti every Thursday.

Annadan — the shared meal
Prasadam is served on Thursdays — Baba's day — and on festival days and other special occasions. It is not served every day. Udi and teertha are given whenever the temple is open.

Sunday
Heavy footfall through the morning. Expect a queue at Madhyan Aarti.
Other days
Calm. Dawn and late evening are close to solitary.
